Additional Forum Rules The most recent changes are in bold. The Don'ts 1. Don't use excessive 2. Don't use excessive profanity. 2.5. Don't direct post gory or graphic images. If you must post such things, only provide a regular link with a large warning as to what to expect when someone clicks on it. We're not interested in surprises here. Users that continue to post such images after a warning will be banned. 2.6. Don't use avatars or other imagery that is obscene or sexist (these include images joking about rape, or death). Emphasizing the other part of rule 2.5, nobody on here is looking for surprises. Many of the users here are browsing this site while at work. Having avatars or images with half-naked women/men goes against this idea because even if it's a regular discussion thread, you've now inserted non-work safe imagery into it so people could get in trouble for having it on the screen when co-workers are around. Keep such content on sites that are dedicated to such things, which this site isn't. The mods and I are going to start deleting threads/posts/avatars deemed offensive without warning or explaination from now on as the number of complaints has risen sharply as of late. 2.7. Don't post links to or display pictures from sites like t_henausea or o_grish, for any reason. They serve purely as conduits for terrorist propaganda and aren't allowed here. 2.8. Don't post terrorist propaganda videos. These can be identified by usually having terrorist organization logos, featuring terrorist themed music, and reading of manifestos or shouting of religious decrees while sniping, bombing, or beheading a victim. 2.73. Don't post threads with TITLES IN ALL CAPS. 3.5. Don't use avatars or signatures that are unreasonably large. 4. Don't use racial or religious slurs. 5. Don't be a poser. Being yourself is good enough; there's no need to try to be something you're not. If you don't know something, ask and people will respect you for your honesty. 6. Don't hijack a good conversation thread with an off-topic political or flame war. Posts of this nature will be deleted from now on. 7. Don't make multiple accounts for yourself. If it's discovered (it's not difficult) that you have multiple accounts, all of them will be deactivated and most likely your ip subnet banned. 8. Don't insult the airsofters or video game players in their forum section. A separate section was setup specifically for hobbyists to separate the real from the non-real military people and events to alleviate such problems. 9. Don't post topics with thread titles that don't describe what's in the thread. Examples are: "WTF?" "Please read this..." and "Oh my god!" 10. This site's language is English. Using alternate languages to get around the flaming or insulting rules is not allowed and can earn a ban. 11. Don't make threatening comments against another user, or post personal information about another user. All such posts are fully logged and are forwarded to the authorities where we see fit. 12. Do not post content from other sites without receiving permission. This includes hotlinking of images and posting more than small excerpts with a link back to the original site. 13. Don't effectively shut down a thread by filling it up with endless emoticons ( 14. There will be no soliciting allowed in Militaryphotos.net forum posts. Do not attempt to sell or advertise anything here. This means in the public forum as well as via private message. If you are not sure if you are in violation of this guideline, ask a moderator. ---- The Do's 1. Be civil to your fellow forum user. They'll respect you if you respect them. 2. Browse the user submitted photo section to better understand some of the people on this forum. 3. There's a wealth of knowledge and experience on tap here via the users on this forum who have served in the armed forces of various countries. Ask lots of questions. ---- Posts, threads, and users who don't follow these rules run a high risk of being deleted. The first one to start using profanity or insults in an argument loses. If you can't win with intelligence and knowledge, then these forums are the wrong place for you. Last edited by hood; 08-13-2008 at 11:00 PM. |

And the mod developed quick reference version...
1. Don't piss off the mods 2. Don't bull**** and claim anything you're not- you'd be surprised at the folks who visit here and their connections- you WILL be discovered and banned 3. Don't confuse fact for your opinion. Qualify your opinion. If it's personal experience say so. If it's from a book say so. If you heard it from your great aunt's sister's best mate's ex 21SAS boyfriend best if you don't post at all. 4. Remember this is a pro US, pro GWOT board by it's nature and thus some opinions may not be too welcome particularly if the dissenter is hyperbolic or baiting about their beliefs. Posting anything political in RIP threads will be dealt with severely. 5. Don't use racism in any form including derogatory statements about the Islamic faith or any other faith. Likewise extended religious ranting will see you booted out the door. 6. Don't post dodgey images (ie non work safe) including graphic images of the dead, wounded, titties or other private 'bits n pieces'. Also stick with the issue font style and size. 7. Lurk and watch before posting 8. Use SEARCH before requesting anything. Don't resurrect old threads unless you are adding substantial new information by your post. 9. If you're banned, suck it up and do your time 10. Don't be aggressively nationalistic 11. Don't start, post on, or otherwise proliferate Balkan, Greek/Turk, Baltic States/Russian, Russian/Polish or other ethnic/racial rivalry threads- guaranteed to get you nuked! 12. Read rule #1 again 13. Look at the list of mods on the bottom of each page so you know who they are. They might have a different and occasionally witty title... 14. Any post starting with "What's the best...." is probably a bad idea, unless we're debating beer, pizza or Jessica Alba verses Jessica Biel 15. Don't post image/picture request threads before using SEARCH, and specifically don't ask for SAS, CAG or other SF/SOF images. Place REQUEST in the title but only after you've exhausted the SEARCH option. 16. This is not friggin eBay. Do not attempt to sell anything- yes even you airsofters. 17. PSD (private security detail- military contractor) does not equal mercenary. This forum has more than a few PSDs as regular posters along with several moderators who work as PSDs or private contractors within the security industry. If you start up with the merc tag expect a short visit to mp.net. 18. Understand that these forums are populated by a minority of guys who've actually been at the sharp end in the service of various militaries. Commonly termed BTDTs (Been There Done That) you will notice them if you lurk long enough. When questioning their opinions or experiences bear in mind that they have, or are, serving and idiotic/sarcastic/rude comments will earn swift retribution both from most BTDTs and the mods. 19. You are a guest here. It is a private board run and funded by it's owner, Hood. It is not a democracy and you have no inalienable rights here. It's Hood's house. Remember that and you'll get along fine. 20. Infractions. They are temporary- like a yellow card in football. Get enough and the card goes red and you're banned for a short period of time (remember if you've majorly broken these rules we still have power to permanently ban you) . Another great way to piss off the mods is to send a PM complaining about getting an infraction. If you're infracted for a joke comment which was taken seriously by a mod, don't whine about it in the open forum, PM the mod and explain and it may be reversed. 21. If you are a rabid believer in any 'the space aliens/Halliburton/the Jews/the government did it' theory about 9/11- don't post it here. We've heard it all before and we're sick to the back teeth of them. Punch yourself in the face instead. 22. If you find a video file clearly featuring SOF, foward to a moderator to have it cleared before posting. Remember again, we are at war. 23. Do NOT quote a bunch of images to add your poorly thought out, misspelt drivel at the end. 24. Do NOT post large numbers of non military related images in Today's Pics or in the Photos & Videos board in general. Go to Off Topic please. 25. And finally, unless you are in Off Topic, ensure your posts add to the body of knowledge regarding the thread topic and are not simply personal opinions particularly if you have no actual experience of that which you speak. This comment pertains specifically to threads in the Photos & Videos section:
We will be handing out infractions for quoting entire photo-posts. The bandwith required to retransmit the data in all those images makes for poor page loading and for a repetitive user experience. If you need to make a comment, quote only the image in question. Thank you! |
