A photo of some experimental rifles on display at the Rock Island Arsenal Museum. Front and center are some of the "Alpha" rifles studied in the late 50's - early 60's. They were .30 caliber, but had *huge* magazine wells.

you can see the same similar parts with the french famas and more bullpup rifle.
