As some of you might know, the Russian Army is currently undergoing a restructuring, the aim of which is create brigade-centric, instead of division-centric, Ground Forces. In this regard, this reform is similar to the transformation undertaken by the U.S. Army with its Brigade Combat Teams.
I know that this reform is already underway and is supposed to be completed by the end of the year. Can someone please advise me regard the new Table of Organisation and Equipment of the Russian Ground Forces? Most current Russian combat divisions consist of regiments and "separate brigades". Can someone advise as to how the new brigades are being formed? Are regiments simply being renamed into brigades, or are they being disbanded and completely new brigades organised? A new TO&E for all russian military districts would be much appreciated, even an incomplete one, given that the reform is ongoing. For example, North Caucasus Military District consists of: - 19th MR Division - 20th Guards MR Division - 33rd MR Division - 42nd MR Division - A whole lot of separate MR/tank brigades and regiments. Each of those divisions is usually subdivided into MR regiments (as far as the combat part is concerned, at least). What happens to them now? Do divisions get disbanded and regiments turn into brigades, or what? Additional question... what happens to the Guards status and the old divisional and regimental Colours? Do they get transferred to new brigades or thrown out completely (which would a damned shame, but not unexpected). |

Run for the hills, Russia sold light arms to a sovereign nation! Additionally, to its credit, Russia revised its policy on the issue when it was presented with evidence that the arms it sold to Syria ended up in Hizbollah hands. So at least it learned from that mistake. Everything else like Venezuela, Iran, etc, are just stupid to whinge about.
