BERLIN (Reuters) - Germany was riveted on Wednesday by live television coverage of an admitted rapist balancing near the edge of the roof atop a four-story Dresden prison after he broke free from guards during a courtyard walkabout.

The 36-year-old jobless technician, who on Monday admitted kidnapping and raping a 13-year-old girl in a five-week ordeal earlier this year, ran away from guards and climbed up the side of the building before they could catch him.

German television networks interrupted regular broadcasting to show live images of the man walking back and forth near the ledge of the building. He has been on the roof since about 7:24 a.m. (0624 GMT), prison officials said.

The prisoner identified only as Mario M., who spent three years in jail for abusing a minor in 1999, admitted in court this week he had sexually abused 13-year-old Stephanie in his flat. He kidnapped the girl, now 14, on her way to school on January 11.

Set up one of those stuntman cushions at the bottom of the building and then taser his ass. He either falls back onto the roof or forward onto the cushion.

Maybe the guards told him what awaits him in prison and let him lose so he could climb up there and jump in order to save the taxpayers some money...

Sneak in behind and push him (accidently) off the roof. Oops. It appears that the operation designed to remove the suspect from the roof has failed. Well, better luck next time.
